Robert C. Runco Interviewed Regarding Daily Fantasy Sports

11 Nov 2015, by Tipton Law in Gaming Law

On Tuesday night, The Tipton Law Firm was asked to discuss the status of daily fantasy sports, in light of yesterday’s decision made by the New York Attorney General.  The Law Firm, instrumental in gaming law and the industry in Colorado since the inception of gaming in Colorado, was pleased to discuss the issues in this evolving area.  Attorney Robert Runco was interviewed on CBS 4 Denver regarding the developing news surrounding daily fantasy sports.  While Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana and Washington prohibit all fantasy sports; Nevada and New York have recently ruled that daily fantasy sports constitute gambling. Nevada has stated that it will permit daily fantasy sports, but only by an approved gaming operator, and only because the state already permits other forms of sports wagering.  New York, however, does not permit betting on sports, and therefore has ordered all daily fantasy sports sites to immediately cease operations within the state.

With two major states rendering decisions on daily fantasy sports, expect other states to follow soon in their determinations. The recent decisions are sure to spark a continued legal battle to determine the permissibly of daily fantasy sports across the nation, and the attorneys at the Tipton Law Firm will continue to monitor this matter as it evolves.
